Add a sensor

This article explains how to add a sensor device in BriqSafe to automatically complete scheduled tasks by collecting data from monitoring equipment. It is intended for engineers setting up IoT devices linked to assets for automated task management.

Register and Place a New Sensor Device

To begin monitoring, register the new sensor hardware in BriqSafe and place it on the asset it will monitor.

  1. Open IoT Devices and select Place Device.
  2. In the Device Identifier field, paste the QR code data or type the 16-character DevEUI. The field will show Valid DevEUI when the input parses correctly.
  3. Click Next.
  4. On Select Location, choose the Site, then the Asset to attach the device to, and for temperature devices, select the Water Type (Cold, Hot, Mixed, or Return pipe).
  5. Click Confirm Placement, then Place Device.
  6. A toast message Device placed successfully! confirms registration and linkage to the asset.

Note: The web interface does not support camera scanning of QR codes; you must paste or enter the DevEUI. The mobile app supports scanning.

If the device has already been placed on another asset, the wizard offers Relocate Device, which moves the device and removes the previous link.

After registering, link the device to the asset and map its sensor entities to specific parameters so that sensor readings can fill scheduled jobs automatically.

  1. Open the device from the IoT Devices list.
  2. In the Linked To card, click Link Device and select the target asset.
  3. Once linked, the Sensor Mappings section appears.
  4. Click Map to connect each device sensor entity (e.g., temperature) with the corresponding BriqSafe parameter it measures.
  5. Set the staleness threshold, which defaults to 24 hours—the maximum age a reading can be to auto-complete a job parameter.
  6. Save the mappings.

Important: Only one target (asset, area, or system) can be linked at a time. Unmapped sensor entities do not feed into scheduled jobs.

How Sensor Readings Auto-Complete Scheduled Jobs

Mapped sensors automatically fill job parameters with live readings, reducing manual entry.

  1. When a scheduled job is Pending or In Progress and requests a parameter that a linked sensor measures, the system fills it using the latest reading within the staleness threshold.
  2. If all required parameters are filled, the job status updates to Completed.
  3. If only some parameters have valid sensor readings, the job remains In Progress.
  4. If none are available or readings are too old, the job stays Pending for manual completion.

Each sensor-filled parameter records the value, unit, and timestamp as evidence.

Review Jobs Completed by Sensors

You can audit jobs that sensors have auto-completed to verify the readings.

  1. Open the completed job from the location's Jobs tab.
  2. Check the parameter values, which will show sensor-sourced readings with their recorded value, unit, and timestamp.
  3. The provenance confirms readings came from the sensor pipeline rather than manual entry.

Modify device details or change its asset association as needed.

  1. Open the device from the IoT Devices list.
  2. Click Edit to change the device name (3 to 100 characters) and type, then Save.
  3. To detach the device from its current asset, use Unlink in the Linked To card.
  4. To move a device to a different asset, run Place Device again.

Unlinking preserves sensor mappings, so relinking a device does not require remapping entities.

You can also link a sensor device directly via the asset's record.

  1. Open the asset and go to the Sensors section.
  2. Use the picker control to select and link an available device to the asset.
  3. The link appears on the asset and can be removed later from the same section.

Changing device links requires device-edit permission; view-only users cannot modify sensor links.
