This article explains how to select a replacement asset in BriqSafe. It is intended for Inspectors and Engineers who manage assets in the system during risk assessments or general asset management.
NoteRequired role: Engineer or Inspector
Selecting a Replacement Asset
When you need to replace an asset in BriqSafe, you must link the new asset properly to maintain accurate records and ensure compliance activities are generated correctly.
Steps to Select and Link a Replacement Asset
- Locate the original asset in the Assets list or on the floor plan.
- Open the asset's details panel and go to the Linked Assets section if supported by the asset type.
- Click Link asset.
- Select the replacement asset from the list presented. The list excludes the asset itself, any assets already at their two-link limit, and those at different locations.
- Confirm the link. The replacement link will appear on both assets, showing the physical relationship.
Note: An asset can have up to two asset-to-asset links in total. If either the original or replacement asset already has two links, you must first remove a link before adding a new one.
Important Constraints and Tips
- Both assets must be at the same location to link.
- If a replacement asset is not offered in the list, check whether it has reached the maximum allowed links or if it is located elsewhere.
- Unlinking the replacement asset from the original asset is possible from either asset record if the relationship changes.
Considerations After Selecting a Replacement
- Linking an asset to systems and sensors properly ensures the replacement asset receives the correct compliance activities and monitoring data.
- If the replacement asset is newly added during an open risk assessment, it will automatically join the assessment if it is within the scope’s structures and areas.
- Editing a replacement asset’s parameters and details will trigger compliance rules to update recommendations accordingly.
Deleting Assets and Replacement Needs
When replacing an asset permanently, you may need to retire the original asset by deleting it. This process removes the asset from active lists and cancels any unfinished jobs linked to it.
Deleting an Asset
- In the Assets list or from the asset’s row menu, select Delete.
- Confirm the deletion in the dialog, noting it will remove asset-to-asset links, sensor links, and cancel unfinished jobs on the asset.
Warning: Deletion is irreversible and requires delete permission, which Engineers do not have by default. Engineers can only request deletion through the mobile app, which awaits a reviewer’s approval.
Approving or Editing Replacement Assets
If an asset added on-site is pending approval, it cannot be edited or linked until an Inspector or higher role approves it.
How Assets Added During Assessments Are Managed
An asset added while a risk assessment is open will join the assessment automatically if it falls within the assessment scope’s structure or area. If it does, the assessment stages related to assets and areas may reopen, requiring additional work.
Summary
Selecting a replacement asset in BriqSafe involves linking the new asset to the original one within the same location while respecting link limits. If the replaced asset is permanently removed, deleting it cancels unfinished jobs and removes links. New replacement assets added during assessments will join the relevant scope automatically if appropriate. Always ensure assets awaiting approval are reviewed before further actions are taken.
