Automate temperature measurements

This article explains how to register a monitoring device, link it to what it measures, map its sensors, and let current readings fill scheduled temperature measurement jobs automatically.

Note

Required role: Engineer

Before You Get Started

  • The device must be registered and claimed in BriqSafe.
  • The device must be installed at the correct Location.
  • Automatic filling is disabled for every job under a Structure when Automatic Job Execution is switched off.

Register a monitoring device

Register the device before linking it to the item it measures.

  1. Open IoT Devices.
  2. Use Add a device by DevEUI and enter, paste, or scan the device's 16-character identifier.
  3. If a vendor provisioned the device, select Where is this device installed?, choose the Location, and select Claim device.
  4. Select Connect this device.
  5. If no vendor provisioned the device, enter the required Integration, Device name, and Device Type. Optionally select Assign to a location, then select Add device.

A claimed device is not connected until it is linked to an Asset, Room, or System. A device added without an Asset is also not linked to a measurement.

Link the device to the item it measures, then review the sensor mappings when the link is to an Asset.

  1. Open the device.
  2. On the unlinked row, select Link Device.
  3. For What do you want to link this device to?, select Asset, Room, or System.
  4. At its Location, select the target.
  5. Select Link Device.
  6. For an Asset link, open Sensor Mappings under Linked To and select Map.
  7. Select Add Sensor Mapping, choose Select sensor, choose Select parameter, and select Add Mapping.

Each device can link to one target only. Only mapped sensors fill jobs. A sensor that is not mapped remains visible on the device chart but does not fill a job. One sensor can be mapped to one parameter.

When a sensor could match more than one parameter, review Sensor Mapping Results and select Confirm Mappings before relying on the readings.

Let readings complete scheduled jobs automatically

After the device is linked and mapped, BriqSafe checks eligible jobs automatically.

  1. Leave the job in To do or In Progress.
  2. Ensure the job is due today or earlier according to the Location's local day.
  3. Allow the mapped sensor's latest reading to fill the matching parameter.

The reading must be newer than the mapping's staleness threshold, which is 24 hours by default. When every parameter has a value, the job becomes Done. If only some parameters have values, it becomes In Progress. If no parameters are filled, it remains To do.

Each automatic fill stores the reading's value, unit, and time. It does not store the sensor's full history in the job. A reading that is not needed by a due job remains on the device chart and does not create a notification or recommendation.

A parameter that no sensor measures, including an optional parameter, keeps the job at In Progress until someone fills it in. Jobs that are not due are not auto-filled.

Perform a temperature measurement manually

Use a Bluetooth thermometer or enter a reading by hand when a job still requires an on-site measurement.

  1. Open the temperature measurement job.
  2. On the Actions tab, select Connect to pair a Bluetooth thermometer.
  3. When the parameter allows manual entry, select Enter manually and type the reading.
  4. After connecting the thermometer, select Start Temperature Measurement.
  5. Wait for the live reading to stop according to the activity's stop conditions.
  6. Select Done to return to the job.
  7. Repeat the measurement for each outstanding parameter.
  8. Add an evidence photo if the job asks for one, then select Complete Job.

When no stop conditions are configured, the reading stops after it holds steady for ten seconds or after two minutes, whichever comes first.

Resolve common setup and measurement issues

  • Automatic Job Execution is switched off: automatic filling is disabled for every job under that Structure.
  • The reading is too old: readings older than the mapping's staleness threshold are skipped.
  • The device is linked but does not fill a job: check that the correct sensor is mapped to the required parameter. Unmapped readings appear only on the device chart.
  • A thermometer disconnects during measurement: all readings for that parameter are discarded. Reconnect the thermometer and measure the parameter again.
  • No pass or fail result appears: the form does not show a pass or fail chip. A breaching reading can still complete the job, and the reading is checked against the compliance rules when submitted.

When a submitted reading breaches a rule while online, BriqSafe confirms either Job completed. A case was created for review. or Job completed. A case is already open for this issue. If the job is completed offline, the app shows Job completed. Will sync when connected.; the reading is evaluated only after it synchronises.
