This article explains how managers can replace, move, rename, unlink, or hand back sensors within BriqSafe. It covers the key device actions available and the access required to perform them.
NoteRequired role: Manager with appropriate device edit or delete access
Edit a sensor’s name or type
Renaming a device or changing its type helps keep your sensor fleet organized and accurate.
- Open the device’s detail page from the IoT Devices list.
- Click Edit. This turns the device name into an editable field (3 to 100 characters) and reveals the Type selector.
- Modify the name and/or type as needed.
- Click Save to commit your changes.
Note: Editing a device requires device edit access. Users with only basic Engineer role permissions will see the Edit option if their access includes it.
Unlink a sensor from its Asset, Area, or System
To detach a sensor from what it measures, you can unlink it.
- Open the device’s detail page.
- Locate the Linked To card.
- Click the Unlink button to detach the device from its assigned Asset, Area, or System.
Important: Unlinking discards all existing sensor mappings for compliance parameters. If you link the device again later, the automatic matching process runs fresh rather than restoring old mappings.
Note: Unlinking requires device edit access. Users without this access will not see the Unlink option.
Move a sensor to another Location
If a sensor needs to be relocated, use the move feature.
- Open the device’s detail page.
- Click More actions (on narrow screens all four main actions appear under this menu).
- Select Move.
- Choose the target Location where the sensor should be placed.
- Confirm the move.
Note: Moving a device requires higher-level device-delete access. Engineers without this level will not see the Move option.
Replace a sensor with another unit
To swap a sensor for a different device, use the replace action.
- Open the original device’s detail page.
- Click More actions, then select Replace.
- Follow the prompts to select and claim the replacement device.
- Complete the replacement to transfer settings and location.
Note: Replacing a device also requires device-delete access. Engineers without this permission will not have this option visible.
Remove a sensor from a site
Removing a sensor from its Location unassigns it without deleting the device. This action can be reversed if needed.
- Open the device’s detail page.
- Click More actions on narrow screens, then select Remove from site.
- Confirm that you want to unassign the sensor from the Location.
Important:
- Remove from site is not a deletion. If the device is owned by you, it remains listed but without a Location assigned.
- If the device was provisioned by a vendor, it leaves your sensor list and returns to the vendor’s device pool, making it claimable onto the same or another Location later.
This action requires device-delete access. It will not be visible to users with only device edit access.
Access to device actions
The visibility of these device actions depends on your access level:
| Action | Access Required | Visible to Engineer Role? |
|---|---|---|
| Edit (rename, change type) | Device edit access | Yes, if device edit access is granted |
| Unlink | Device edit access | Yes, if device edit access is granted |
| Move | Device-delete access (higher level) | No |
| Replace | Device-delete access (higher level) | No |
| Remove from site | Device-delete access (higher level) | No |
