Temperature measurement

This article explains how to set up and perform Temperature measurement jobs using BriqSafe. It is intended for engineers who carry out on-site temperature flushing and monitoring activities.

Placing and Linking a Temperature Monitoring Device

To enable continuous temperature monitoring, you can place a new temperature device and link it to an asset.

  1. Open the scanner and scan the device QR code to open Place Device.
  2. Select the Location and the Asset to link it to, or scan the Asset QR code.
  3. Choose the water type when prompted.
  4. Tap Place Device to confirm.
  5. The device is now linked to the asset and begins monitoring immediately if it is a Bluetooth-class device. LoRaWAN devices start reporting only after their first uplink.

Note: If the device is already placed elsewhere, the screen offers Relocate Device instead of fresh placement.

Registering and Attaching a New Sensor

If you receive new sensor hardware, you must register it in BriqSafe and attach it to the asset it will monitor.

  1. Go to IoT Devices and select Place Device.
  2. On the Device Identifier field, paste the QR code data or type the 16-character DevEUI (which shows Valid DevEUI when correct).
  3. Tap Next.
  4. Select the Site, then the Asset, and choose the Water Type (Cold, Hot, Mixed, or Return pipe).
  5. Tap Confirm Placement, then Place Device.
  6. A confirmation toast displays Device placed successfully! indicating the device is registered and linked.

Important: The web wizard lacks a camera, so you must paste or type the DevEUI. Scanning using the camera is only available on mobile. If the DevEUI is already registered to another organisation, registration stops with an error. Replacing an already-placed device relocates it.

Mapping Device Sensors to Compliance Parameters

After device placement, map each sensor entity to the compliance parameter it measures so sensor readings can fill scheduled jobs automatically.

  1. Open the device from the IoT Devices list.
  2. In the Linked To card, choose Link Device and select the target asset.
  3. In the displayed Sensor Mappings section, tap Map to link each device sensor entity (such as temperature) to the corresponding BriqSafe parameter.
  4. Each mapping includes a staleness threshold (default 24 hours), which defines how recent a reading must be to auto-fill a job.
  5. Save your changes.

Note: A device can only link to one target at a time (asset, area, or system). Only mapped entities feed scheduled jobs. If a reading is older than the staleness threshold, the system skips it and the job stays pending. Unmapped sensor entities do not auto-fill jobs but appear in charts.

Performing Temperature (Flushing) Measurement Jobs

Take Measurement - Hot Tap screen allows users to input detailed hot water temperature data and comments for multiple pending measurement tasks, with an option to complete the job.

Use the temperature job form to record water temperature during outlets flushing, either with a Bluetooth thermometer or manual entry.

  1. Open the temperature job from the visit job list.
  2. Tap Connect Thermometer to pair a Bluetooth thermometer, or tap Fill Temperature Manually to enter readings by hand.
  3. If using a thermometer, tap Start Measurement and run the water outlet. The live reading is shown and the measurement auto-stops when the temperature stabilises.
  4. Repeat the measurement for each required reading.
  5. If the activity requires photo evidence, attach a photo to the job.
  6. Tap Complete Job to finish.

Important:

  • The form does not show pass or fail status; breaching readings are still recorded and jobs can be completed. Threshold breaches are assessed afterward and can raise cases.
  • If the activity type lacks defined stop conditions, default measurement settings apply: reading times out after 2 minutes or must be entered manually.
  • If the thermometer disconnects, already captured readings remain. You can reconnect the thermometer or switch to manual input.

Performing Flushing Timer Jobs

Some temperature jobs include a flushing timer to run the outlet for a set duration before measuring temperature.

  1. Open the flushing timer job.
  2. Check the Prescribed flush duration.
  3. Open the outlet and tap the timer start button.
  4. The countdown runs, and Complete Job remains disabled while it runs.
  5. The timer runs in the background if you leave the form.
  6. When the timer shows Flush complete, close the outlet and tap Complete Job.

Note: You cannot complete the job before the timer expires. The server also rejects early completion attempts.

Working Offline During Temperature Jobs

BriqSafe supports offline job execution so temperature measurement jobs can continue without internet connectivity.

  1. Open the visit while online to cache data locally.
  2. Once offline, an offline indicator appears but all entry points and forms remain accessible.
  3. Bluetooth thermometer pairing and device pairing continue device-to-device.
  4. The flushing timer runs locally.
  5. Readings, photos, and status changes queue locally.
  6. When connectivity returns, the app auto-syncs updates in the background.

Reminder: Opening the visit while online is critical. If you open it first offline, cached job data may be incomplete. After reconnection, allow time for queued uploads (photos, readings) to finish.

Reviewing Completed Temperature Jobs

You can audit temperature jobs after completion to verify readings and evidence.

  1. Open the completed job from the Location’s Jobs tab.
  2. View recorded parameter values, which include the reading, unit, and timestamp.
  3. The provenance shows if the reading came from a sensor pipeline or manual entry.

Sensor-completed jobs look and behave like manually completed jobs, the main difference being the source noted for each reading.

What Happens When a Threshold is Breached

Completing a temperature job with out-of-range readings records the data as usual and does not block job completion.

  1. Finish the job normally by tapping Complete Job.
  2. The server evaluates breaches after job completion.
  3. If escalation is needed, the app confirms with Job completed. A case was created for review.
  4. The back office reviews the case.

Note: There is no pass/fail shown on the on-site form. Breaches are detected server-side and notified later. If job completion happens offline, the notification appears only after synchronization.

Filtering and Searching Temperature Jobs

To manage multiple temperature jobs during a visit, use filtering and search.

  1. Open the job list.
  2. Tap the filter icon to open Filters.
  3. Filter by Activity type and Status (Open, Completed, Overdue, Skipped).
  4. Apply the filters or tap Clear all to reset.
  5. Use the search icon and enter terms in the Search jobs field to find specific jobs.
