This article explains how a manager can view a location's rotation plan to check which assets are being sampled during the current cycle. It covers how to open the Rotation plan tab, interpret its contents, understand the role of the Reset period, and avoid common pitfalls when working with rotation-enabled compliance rules.
NoteRequired role: Manager or above to use the Reset period action; Viewers and Engineers can view the plan but cannot reset the period.
Opening the Location's Rotation Plan
To review which assets a rotation-enabled compliance rule is sampling this cycle, follow these steps:
- Open Locations and select the desired location.
- Click on the Rotation plan tab.
Each rotation-enabled compliance rule configured for that location appears here, showing details about the active rotation pattern, current coverage, the next proposed sample subset, and the history of previous proposals.
If a compliance rule has no rotation configured, the display reads No rotation plan configured for that rule.
Understanding the Rotation Plan Tab
The Rotation plan tab provides the following key information for each rotation-enabled compliance rule:
- Pattern in use: The rotation pattern that determines how assets are sampled.
- Current coverage: The subset of assets sampled in the current rotation cycle.
- Next proposal: The planned subset of assets to be sampled in the upcoming cycle.
- History: Past rotation proposals and coverage.
Important: Rotation is configured on the compliance rule itself, not within the Rotation plan tab. Therefore, if the rotation pattern or the sample subset size appears incorrect or inconsistent, the issue originates from the compliance rule configuration, not the Rotation plan tab.
Using the Reset Period Action
The Reset period button allows ending the current rotation cycle early and starting a new cycle immediately. This can be useful for correcting the sampling period without waiting for its natural end.
- In the Rotation plan tab, find the Reset period button at the top.
- Click the button to end the current running block early.
Note: Resetting the period is a permission-restricted action available only to users with the Manager role or above. Viewers and Engineers will see the rotation plan without the Reset period button.
The Reset period action can be used only once per rotation period. After use, it becomes disabled until the next rotation period begins.
Common Pitfalls and How to Address Them
Incorrect Sample Size or Pattern
If the size of the sampled subset or the rotation pattern appears wrong, remember that these settings are controlled on the compliance rule, not the Rotation plan tab. Changing them correctly requires editing the compliance rule configuration.
Assets Not Included in Per-Room Patterns
When a compliance rule uses a per-room rotation pattern, any asset located outside a room-like Area is skipped in the sampling. The next proposal will report sampling points without a room as excluded.
To fix this, move the asset into an appropriate room-like Area within the location structure. Suitable areas include mechanical rooms, utility rooms, offices, storage areas, or zones. Adjusting the rotation pattern itself is not required.
Additional Notes
- The Rotation plan tab presents a snapshot view. To confirm plan health and ensure the sampling plan is valid against the current site conditions, use the Plan health card on this tab.
- Changes in building structure, areas, or assets may silently impact rotation and compliance rules, so reviewing the Rotation plan tab after such changes is recommended.
