Why a rotation cycle picked these sampling points

This article explains how BriqSafe determines the sampling points selected by a rotation cycle and guides managers on how to verify that the sampling proposal is defensible.

Viewing the Rotation Plan and Sampling Points

To understand which asset subset a rotation-enabled compliance rule samples during the current cycle, check the Location’s Rotation plan tab. This tab lists the points proposed for the next cycle and explains why each sampling point was picked.

1. Open the Location and select the Rotation plan tab.
2. Locate each rotation-enabled compliance rule in the list. For each rule, you will see the sampling points proposed for the upcoming cycle along with the reasons for their selection.

One key reason points are selected is due to network position minimums defined in the compliance rule. These minimums specify a required mix of samples from particular network positions (for example, near-source or far-from-source points).

Understanding Network Position Minimums in Rotation Cycles

When a compliance rule requests a minimum number of samples from a specific network position, this minimum is added on top of the general cycle’s sample count.

For example, if a rule requires four samples per cycle but also specifies a minimum of one near-source point and one far-from-source point, the total planned samples for that cycle will be six.

The arithmetic is as follows:

• Base sample count per cycle: 4
• • Minimum near-source samples: 1
• • Minimum far-from-source samples: 1
• Total planned samples: 6

This ensures the cycle meets both the overall sample count and the network position mix requirement.

How Assets at Positions With Minimums Are Handled

Assets assigned to a network position with a minimum sample requirement leave the general rotation pool. Instead, they rotate only among themselves, with the least recently sampled assets chosen first.

The minimums themselves are set on the compliance rule and not on the Location’s Rotation plan tab.

Warnings When Network Position Minimums Cannot Be Met

If the Location holds fewer assets at a position than the minimum specifies, BriqSafe issues a warning every cycle. The warning states that the sample mix could not be met and reports how many points are still needed.

This warning persists until resolved because:

• Fieldwork or sampling does not clear the warning by itself.
• The minimum must be lowered, or
• More assets must be added to that network position.

Without sufficient assets, the system cannot meet the minimum mix as required by the compliance rule.

Restriction on Rules Using Coverage Period Sizing

Rotation rules that determine sample size by coverage period cannot be combined with network position minimums. Such a combination is rejected by the system.
