This article explains how to start a new risk assessment for a location within BriqSafe. It covers the procedure for creating a risk assessment from a visit as well as directly from the location's structure, and how to select the correct type of assessment to match your organisation's setup.
NoteRequired role: Manager or above
Start a New Risk Assessment from a Location

Use this method when the location is fully configured with structures, areas, systems, assets, and an active control regime, and you want to create a scheduled or ad-hoc risk assessment.
-
Open the location and navigate to the Structures section.
-
On the structure card where you want to create the assessment, click Create risk assessment.
- If the structure already has active assessments, open the structure card dropdown and choose Create new risk assessment instead. A structure can hold multiple risk assessments as long as their scopes do not overlap.
-
In the panel that opens, select the risk assessment activity type configured for this location's jurisdiction and organisation.
- The location's control regime determines which forms, thresholds, and sections the assessment will use.
- Note that available activity types, such as regular or initial risk assessments, vary by organisation and jurisdiction.
-
Define the scope and scheduling details as required, then create the assessment.
Start a Risk Assessment via Visit Creation
You can also start a risk assessment when creating a new visit, which allows grouping multiple jobs together.
- From the Visit page, begin by creating a new visit.
- Select the Site (location) for the visit.
- Add a Job to the visit.
- Choose the appropriate risk assessment activity type (for example, an initial risk assessment) from the job activity list.
- Proceed with setting the job scope, which behaves like a risk assessment scope picker to select structures, areas, systems, and assets to be covered.
Selecting and Confirming the Scope of a Risk Assessment
Accurately choosing the parts of the location to include is essential for a valid assessment.
- Open the risk assessment overview screen.
- Find and open the Select scope card and click the Scope for analysis field that shows the current number of selected items.
- In the Change scope picker, navigate the tree and tick the desired Structures, Areas, Systems, and Assets to include. Selecting a parent item will cascade to its children.
- Review the count of selected items and confirm your selection by clicking the Confirm button.
Important notes:
- Items already covered by another active risk assessment appear greyed out and cannot be selected. You must first finish or remove them from the other assessment.
- A risk assessment must cover items governed by a single control regime. Trying to select items from a different regime will grey them out with an explanatory message.
- The maximum assets you can include in one assessment is limited to 500; selections exceeding this limit will be rejected.
- The Confirm button will be disabled while scope data is loading to prevent saving incomplete selections.
Additional Considerations
- Only users with a Manager role or above can create risk assessments. While the Create risk assessment button may be visible to others who can create jobs, the final creation step will be blocked without proper permissions.
- One risk assessment relates to a single location and cannot span across multiple locations.
- A structure may hold several active risk assessments, but their scopes cannot overlap.
- The completeness and progress of a risk assessment can be tracked in its overview, showing progress on data collection for locations, systems, areas, and assets.
