Is my cached visit data out of date?

This article helps engineers determine whether the thresholds and job list they have in their cached visit data are up to date. It explains the data-freshness indicators on the sync-status card and how to refresh outdated data.

Understanding Data Freshness on the Sync-Status Card

The sync-status card shows the freshness of your cached visit data, which includes the control scheme and the job list you use during a visit.

• After about 12 hours without refreshing, the cached data is flagged as possibly outdated.
• After about 24 hours without refreshing, the cached data is flagged as outdated.

This helps you know if the thresholds and job list you see may be old and could require updating.

Refreshing Visit Data to Get the Latest Thresholds and Job List

To refresh the cached data during a visit, you must reconnect your device and use the Get latest data function. This pulls the newest control scheme and job list onto your device.

1. Ensure your device has an active internet connection.
2. Open the visit and access the sync-status card.
3. Tap the Get latest data button to download the latest visit data.

Important Limitations When Refreshing Data

Be aware of the following traps that can prevent refreshing visit data mid-visit:

• Get latest data is disabled while your device is offline. You must reconnect to the internet first.
• The button is also disabled if you have unsynced changes waiting to upload. Before you can pull fresh data, your device must clear the outbound queue by syncing all pending changes.

This means if you started a visit offline and your cached thresholds were already outdated, you cannot fix those thresholds until you reconnect and the queue clears. There is no way to refresh thresholds mid-visit without connectivity.

Best Practice to Avoid Outdated Thresholds

To ensure you start each visit with fresh data, open the visit while online before going into the field. This will load and cache the latest control scheme and job list on your device. Then, if you lose connectivity later during the visit, you can continue with up-to-date thresholds.
