This article explains what makes a location compliance-active and how to confirm that compliance activities have been created for its structures, areas, systems, and assets.
How compliance becomes active
A location becomes compliance-active when an applicable control regime is resolved and its active compliance rules generate activities. The rules engine evaluates the configuration when you create or update location items.
- For a Structure, the facility type and the location's jurisdiction determine the automatic control regime. You can also set a control regime manually when adding the structure.
- For an Area, the control regime is resolved from the area first, then its parent areas, and finally its structure.
- For an Asset, the control regime is resolved through its area.
- For a System, the system uses its structure's control regime directly.
The control regime is not inherited from the location itself. If no regime is resolved, the rules engine generates no activities.
What triggers activity generation
The control schema is generated as you build and update the location. There is no manual generate action.
- Creating a structure or area, or changing its control regime, runs the rules again.
- Creating, moving, updating, or deleting an asset or system runs the rules for that entity.
- Changing asset parameters that drive the rules can add or remove mandatory activities.
- Approving a technical recommendation for an asset, system, or area adds its suggested activities to the control schema.
Generation is queued and runs in batches. After a bulk change, reload the Control Schema tab before deciding that activities were not created.
Confirm that the location is compliance-active
- Open the location.
- Open the Control Schema tab.
- Review the activity types and the activities listed for the location's structures, areas, systems, and assets.
- Select an activity type to view its activities and their statuses, such as To do, In progress, Done, Overdue, Skipped, or Closed.
If the tab shows No activity types found, no activities were generated for the current configuration. Check that the relevant entity resolves a control regime and that the regime has active compliance rules.
Check the control regime when no activities appear
Use the inheritance path for the affected entity to find the missing configuration.

A structure that matches no regime-selection rule for the location's jurisdiction uses the organisation's default control regime. If there is no active default, the structure has no regime and no activities are generated.
Check whether activities can generate jobs
In Control Schema, an activity that is switched off with Activity enabled still appears in the list but is greyed out and has no status badge. It does not generate jobs.
If a system was recently linked or unlinked from an asset, the change does not update activities immediately. The location is flagged for the next nightly Plan health check, and the dependent activities are updated at the asset's next rule evaluation or the next time a visit is scheduled.
When no compliance activities are generated
If no control regime resolves, the rules engine creates zero activities. A later rule-engine run can also soft-delete rule-generated activities for that entity. Activities added from accepted suggestions are kept. Jobs that are already scheduled are not deleted; open jobs are cancelled only when a structure's regime change is saved with the option to cancel open jobs from the outgoing regime.
